At Main Attraction Fishing Charters, adaptability is the name of the game. Our consistent success in catching fish is because our approach is fluid; as the seasons shift, so do our tactics. Now that cooler weather is here, we are adjusting our strategy to align with fall and winter patterns. Lately, we’ve been finding the most success working the reefs and wrecks, or heading just past the reef line to chase Sailfish.

On November 18th, Captain Marty Lewis fished with our good friend Mark Busch and some of his friends on an afternoon trip. In just a few hours, they secured some quality mutton snapper, a beautiful black grouper and a stud mangrove snapper. All delicious to eat and fun to catch!

The next day, we had a morning half-day with the Welch group aboard the 49 foot Main One. They were having so much fun, they decided to extend it to a full day. On their trip, they caught mangrove and mutton snapper, and even had the chance to catch and release a sailfish. We call this “dinner and a show!

A few days later the LaVerghetta family fished a half-day aboard our 43 foot vessel the Main Attraction. They caught yellowtail, a nice grouper and a sailfish in just 4 hours.

Mid-November brought us a welcome calm day, perfect for heading offshore. Along the way, Captain Marty and crew hooked into a few mahi, including a nice-sized gaffer.

Catching mahi this late in the year is a rare and exciting sight, making even one or two a fantastic and unexpected bonus for the trip.

On November 25th, we ran two simultaneous trips targeting snapper on the local reefs and wrecks. Captain Marty took the Rodowsky family aboard the Main One. They had an incredibly successful day, boating four stud mutton snapper and several beautiful yellowtail snapper.

The haul provided a truly great, fresh dinner selection for his charter to enjoy during their holiday stay.

The Castro family fished with us aboard the Reel One. They had a blast, pulling in an impressive five big mutton snapper and one large kingfish. They left with big smiles and a cooler full of delicious meat—a perfect holiday memory!

As Thanksgiving approached, the Lewis family decided to spend the holiday enjoying quality time with close family and friends. With Katie’s parents in town, what else would they do? They went fishing, of course!

Over the last few years, this has become a cherished Thanksgiving tradition: a few hours of fishing in the morning, followed by an afternoon of cooking, and finishing with a wonderful, delicious holiday dinner.

To make the morning trip possible, Katie prepped all the traditional sides the day before. This meant that on Thanksgiving morning, the whole family could enjoy a few hours together on the water.

On Thanksgiving morning, Captain Marty quickly caught the necessary bait and brought them to the spot he had in mind. It wasn’t long after the lines were set before they were hooked up!

After reeling in several beautiful mutton snappers and even a bonus grouper, the crew was feeling thankful—and ready to head in to get the turkey started!

After the crew returned from the water, the afternoon was dedicated to preparing the feast. After a few hours of cooking, everyone finally gathered around the table.

Katie did a great job! The aroma of a perfectly roasted turkey and all the traditional sides filled the air as the Lewis family and their guests enjoyed a truly wonderful and delicious Thanksgiving meal, concluding a holiday built around family, tradition, and a few hours spent on the water.

Following the busy Thanksgiving holiday, the pace of life in town temporarily slows down. We use this downtime to focus on necessary preparations: catching and stocking our bait cages, securing specialized tournament bait, and ensuring our vessels are prepped for the fast-approaching sailfish season.

We have a particularly exciting season ahead, as we are participating in the Gold Cup Sailfish Series this year. This prestigious series includes the Islamorada Sailfish Tournament, the Islamorada Fishing Club Tournament, and the Cheeca Lodge Presidential Tournament. Be sure to stay tuned for regular tournament updates from December through April!
