Two-Day Florida Keys Summer Fishing Charter Camp – July 2022

We had such a blast hosting our spring fish camp that we have decided to do a summertime fish camp! The summer brings calmer seas and winds, which is excellent news because typically, we need to head further offshore to catch fish this time of year. So we switch gears in the summer and spend most of our time offshore. The winter/spring gusty winds have subsided by May, allowing us to travel far enough to target deep-sea pelagic and bottom-dwelling fish. We still monitor the weather because we occasionally see fronts or tropical systems in the summertime.

Dates

We have scheduled our summertime fish camp to hopefully capture both the Mangrove snapper spawn and the Mahi season. Like our last camp, we plan to fish two days and have one extra day as an alternate if the weather is a factor. Friday, July 15th, and Saturday, July 16th will be the planned fishing days, and Sunday, July 17th as a weather alternative.

Location

The fish camp will take place aboard the Main One, our 49′ sport fisher with an air Conditioned cabin, which is great to have in the summertime. This vessel is located at the Marathon Sailfish Marina in Marathon, Florida. Captain Marty Lewis will be leading the fish camp alongside his mate(s). The fish camp is designed to give anglers a more hands-on experience and answer any questions they might have, for two full days of learning, absorbing, and catching!

Species

As a participant, you will focus on various species, including Mangrove Snapper, Dolphinfish (Mahi), Blackfin Tuna, Wahoo, and Tripletail. If conditions permit, participants will also do some deep dropping for Barrelfish, Blackbelly Rose fish, Queen snapper, Snowy Grouper, Yellowedge Grouper, and Swordfish. As always, the species and techniques that we use depend on the day’s conditions.

Curriculum

Participants will learn all sorts of techniques such as knot tying, bait rigging, and other skills to fish like the professionals do! This camp is also a tremendous opportunity if you are a single angler. A large boat and private charter is a bit much for one, but by paying per person, you are getting (2) full days of fishing for significantly less than our private charters.

Cost

The cost of this two-day experience is $1,700 per person with a 50% deposit upfront at the time of booking. A minimum of 4 participants is required for the boat to go out. If the minimum is not met, your deposit will be returned in full. Gratuity is not included, so please remember to tip your Captain and Mate as you would on any other charter; this is how they earn their living.

Weather and Cancelation

The weather is typically quite calm in the summer, but it is not a guarantee. If conditions are unsuitable for fishing or unsafe, we will reschedule the dates. July 17th is an extra weather day we have set aside to assist with this. If weather conditions deem it unsafe to fish, your deposit will be returned commiserate to the number of days fished. You forfeit your deposit if you cancel with less than seven days’ notice.

Extras

In addition to the two days of learning and fishing, we will also have a professional photographer and videographer aboard to capture all the camp moments. You will get a chance to appear on the Main Attraction YouTube Channel and have a cool takeaway to remember your camp experience!

Each camp participant will get a Main Attraction swag bag that includes a (t-shirt, buff, hat, etc) and will be provided soft drink beverages/water. Just bring your own food and sunscreen. Any fish caught in season and of legal size will be dispersed evenly to each participant to take home and enjoy fresh seafood. Although you don’t need a cooler while on our vessels, you may want to bring one to leave in your car for transporting your filets.

Schedule

Boats are scheduled to leave between 7 am-8 am each morning, depending on conditions. Each trip will last at least 7 hours. Fishing is unpredictable, so please make sure you have a fluid schedule over the three days to go with the flow. The event will be well organized, but the schedule must be flexible to provide participants with the best experience.

Lodging

If you are traveling to the Florida Keys to participate in our Fish Camp, we do have a Main Attraction Discount for the nearby Fairfield Inn and Suites. There is a restaurant on the property, along with several pools. Past clients have mentioned how convenient the onsite restaurant is after a long day on the water. The hotel is approximately a 5-minute drive from our dock. If you wish to participate in this exciting and educational experience, call us at (305) 289-0071 or contact us for more details.
