When Life Throws You Wind and Rain: Make Memories!

Mother Nature threw a curveball at the Florida Keys the past few weeks! A giant moisture blob drenched most of the state, with some areas like Fort Lauderdale and Miami experiencing over 20 inches of rain and flooding. While the Keys dodged the worst downpours, travel disruptions caused headaches for our valued customers at Main Attraction. Despite the weather, we were fortunate to get trips out, even if not for the entire duration. But that's not all! This week, relentless easterly winds of 15-25 mph have kept things choppy, making for a challenging fishing environment. However, as [...]

Florida Keys Almost Summer Fishing Report: Hot Weather, Hot Fishing!

School is out, summer is nearly here, and the heat is on! With temperatures soaring between 90-100 degrees, it's been scorching lately. But fishing? It's even hotter! Mahi Mania We've been spotting weedlines offshore, a fantastic sign for Dolphinfish (Mahi-Mahi). Recently, the wind pushed some Mahi closer to shore, allowing us to catch a few right on the reef while fishing with our repeat clients, Jay Williams and Brice Brown. These gentlemen usually bring a group of friends at the start of each summer for multiple days of fun on the water. On [...]

Florida Keys Reef Fishing May 2024 – Birthday Edition

Every year on Cinco de Mayo, May 5th, our very own Katie Lewis gathers her girlfriends for an annual fishing trip.  May 5th is also Katie’s birthday so she looks forward to this trip every year. You would think she fishes all the time, but sadly that is not the case! Usually, she's busy fielding calls, booking clients, and preparing them for their fishing adventures. Despite the windy forecast of 10-20 mph winds from the East, Katie decided to celebrate by taking her girlfriends fishing. She advised anyone with a weak stomach to take seasick [...]

Florida Keys Spring Fishing Report – April 2024

What a rollercoaster of a week it's been! Last weekend, our plans took a hit as we had to call off a charter due to relentless rain and strong winds. Unfortunately, our client was only in town for those days when the weather turned sour. The ocean resembled a frothy milkshake, with menacing storms unleashing thunder and lightning. When weather-bound, most of the crew usually heads home for some extra rest. However, Captain Marty Lewis saw an opportunity amidst the setback. He decided to tackle some overdue boat maintenance and replenish our tackle inventory at Cudjoe [...]

2024 Fish For Holly Sailfish Tournament

Now that the holidays are behind us, it is time to focus on Sailfish! We started 2024 with one of the first Sailfish Tournaments of the new year, The Fish for Holly Sailfish Tournament out of Islamorada. Main Attraction owners Captain Marty Lewis and his Wife, Katie Lewis, fish this tournament yearly. It is a wonderful tournament that raises money for an important cause: raising awareness about domestic violence. Usually, Marty and Katie fish the tournament every year with a repeat client named Dominick and his friend Jeremy. Since Dominick could not make it this year, they [...]

The Snapper bite has been hot on the reef! In true Florida Keys style, we ended 2023 with a flurry of fishing trips. The day after Christmas every year marks the start of the busiest week of the year in the Florida Keys. It can get pretty hectic that week, so the locals commonly call it 'Hell Week!' Hotel occupancies this year were 90-100%, with many families looking to put a unique island twist to their Christmas festivities. During this week, we fished nonstop, with multiple trips per day. A large Mangrove Snapper caught on the reef recently. Can you believe it's December already? 2023 seems to have passed in a flash. There were many ups and a few downs, but as always, we managed to surmount the challenges we encountered. As the new year approaches, we are happy to report that the fishing in the Florida Keys has been exceptional! A few weeks ago, we had what felt like a tropical storm come through. Despite its classification as a low-pressure system, the deluge of rain and relentless high winds we endured were [...]
