Stanley Switlik Elementary School Fish Club – Marathon, Florida

As a parent living on a small island in the Florida Keys being resourceful and utilizing local programs available to your children is a great way to enrich their childhood. In Marathon, Florida, the local elementary school offers an outstanding opportunity: an inclusive fishing club available to every student. Mr. Bill Eller, the School Health and Wellness Coordinator, leads the school's fishing club. A few years back, when Stanley Switlik Elementary School underwent renovations, they incorporated an observation dock at the rear of the school. This area allows the children to fish off the dock, get [...]

Greater Amberjack Tag and Release Program

Seriola Dumerili, AJ, Reef Donkey, Rock Salmon, Yellow trevally, Jenny Lind. Whatever you call it, the Greater Amberjack is a special fish. It's funny how iconic species of fish that have a significant impact on the lives of us humans seem to go by so many names. The Greater Amberjack is just that; it is the unsung hero of both the commercial and charter fishing industry.  Commercial Value Greater Amberjack is fished commercially throughout the South Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico and is often served in restaurants. 2022 Marathon Premier Sailfish Tournament

2022 Marathon Premier Sailfish Tournament Last weekend was one for the books! The 1st Annual Marathon Premier Sailfish Tournament was held in Marathon, Florida Keys. This non-profit organization was established by Main Attraction co-owner, Katie Lewis. The tournament aims to showcase local talent, bring a much-needed sailfish tournament to Marathon, and raise money for a fantastic cause. This year’s charity of choice was Mission Fishin, a south Florida-based charity that helps special needs children and their families get out on the water and fish, take boat rides, and eco-tours.  All four of Main Attraction’s vessels were [...]

Main Attraction Moves To Marathon Sailfish Marina

With the New Year comes some exciting news for the Main Attraction family! No, we are not expecting any babies, but Captain Marty and Katie have recently purchased a 13-slip marina! We are excited to announce that Marathon Sailfish Marina is the new home of Main Attraction Sportfishing Charters. For the past three decades, Key Colony Beach Marina has been our docking home, and by our estimates, we've fished somewhere between 150-180 thousand people out of that marina! Since Hurricane Irma hit the Keys in 2017, the Key Colony Beach Marina has been up for sale. Over the [...]

Inshore Variety – March 2021 Fishing Report

The Reel Attraction is our 32’ center console which is one of our most versatile boats in the fleet. Typically, Captain Steve runs the Reel Attraction, but he had the day off and the boat wasn’t booked, so Captain Marty Lewis took his wife, young daughter, and his mate Lance, to fun fish inshore for a few hours. The fishing had been kind of slow the previous few days, but there is an old saying “A bad day of fishing is better than a good day in the office”. So with that said, the group grabbed [...]

Florida Keys Fishing Report – End of 2020

Finally, 2020 has come to an end and we are thrilled! We just finished two very busy weeks here in the Florida Keys including Christmas week; the busiest week of the year. To be proactive before the nonstop week of fishing, we installed two brand new motors on one of our most popular vessels, the Main Attraction. Unfortunately, within two days of running them, one of our shiny new motors had a major internal failure and was found to be unrepairable. We worked very hard to rearrange trips on our four other vessels and get people on the [...]

Florida Keys Fishing Report – September, 2020 – Mahi, Tuna, Wahoo

Florida Keys Fishing Report - September, 2020 - Mahi, Tuna, Wahoo The Florida Keys are still pretty busy, which is a surprise. Typically, every year once the kids go back to school, the Keys will see fewer visitors, making it our off-season. This year, Main Attraction fished more charters in July and August then we did in 2019 and September is looking pretty busy too. Our guess is after the COVID restrictions were lifted, people were anxious to get out of the house and have a vacation that didn't require international travel. What is better than being in [...]
