2020 Mahi-Mahi Tournament Update

2020 Mahi-Mahi Tournament Update S ummertime is the prime time for Mahi-Mahi (a.k.a Dolphinfish). The Florida Keys see lots of travelers in search of filling their freezer with fresh meat to consume throughout the year. It is also a fun time because many Dolphin tournaments are held throughout the islands which encourages friendly competition among the local fishing crews. Marathon hosts several different tournaments, such as the Marathon Bull and Cow, Mother’s Day Dolphin Tournament (by Habitat for Humanity), and the Father’s Day Dolphin Derby. The Main Attraction Charter fleet has been fishing Mahi tournaments for years! Typically, [...]

Florida Keys Reopening – June 2020 Fishing Report

Florida Keys Reopening - June 2020 Fishing Report The Florida Keys officially reopened to public visitors on June 1, 2020. As the charters began to trickle in, we were thrilled to have some type of normalcy back in our lives. We were also fortunate enough to have our loyal clients who had trips booked during the pandemic, reschedule instead of cancel to help support our business during such a difficult time. We are happy to report we are back in action, fishing, and working hard! Dave Villiger and his son recently traveled from Atlanta, Georgia, to fish with [...]

Florida Keys Fishing Report – January 2, 2020

Florida Keys Fishing Report - January 2, 2020 It has been a very busy week for us at Main Attraction. Our boats have been running double charters to accommodate everyone during one of the busiest times of the year. We had a huge weather front blow through on December 18th starting in the afternoon and lasting until Sunday evening December 22nd. We tried our hardest to get these charters out, but for the safety of our passengers and vessels, we had to cancel or reschedule most of those trips. Once the weather let up, we were back on [...]

The “Secret” to Successful Florida Keys Charter Fishing

The “Secret” to Successful Florida Keys Charter Fishing Many clients are envious of our Captains and Mates. They say things like, “you are so lucky you get to fish all year round!” They are not wrong, of course, our crew members love to fish. However, most people don’t get to see all of the work behind the scenes that is required to consistently produce fish for our clients. A successful charter fishing fleet entails so much more than fishing daily. While our past article The “Secret” to Winning Florida Keys Sailfish Tournaments focused on the preparation required for high [...]

Florida Keys Fishing Report – September 2019

Florida Keys Fishing Report - September 2019 In the past week, we have had some fun fishing charters, which is great news for the month of September! Typically, September is slow, not because of the fishing, but because families aren’t traveling as much, due to the kids going back to school. But lately the fishing has been great in Marathon. Dolphin fish, which are also known as Mahi or Dorado, are still here in the Florida Keys. Captain Marty and Shelby have reported the fish to be anywhere between 15-21 miles offshore, which is about 600-800 feet deep. With [...]

Florida Keys Off-Season Fishing Charters

Florida Keys Off-Season Fishing Charters Wow! What a busy summer we have had in the Florida Keys. During the months of May, June, and July, our fleet completed over 300 fishing charters. With only a couple weeks left in August we wanted to take the time to thank everyone who visited us this Summer. We hope you had a positive fishing experience and plan to come back and fish with us again. As the summer winds down and the kids go back to school, charter bookings start to slow down as well. Slowing down for us means we only [...]

Florida Keys Fishing Conditions Guide

Florida Keys Fishing Conditions Guide When clients call or email to book a charter, they convey what type of fish they prefer to catch, whether its going offshore in search of Mahi, deep dropping for Swordfish or staying on the reef to catch Snapper etc. The million dollar question often is, can you guarantee we will catch fish? Main Attraction DOES guarantee for a full day charter, that you will catch fish, but we can not guarantee what species of fish you will catch. Why? Because It all comes down to the conditions on the day you go out. [...]
