Florida Keys Fishing Report – August 2020
Florida Keys Fishing Report - August 2020 August 2020 kicked off with some excitement last week. Captain Marty had some nice folks for a full day offshore. Ralph and his friends originally canceled their trip due to tropical storm Isisais and its potential impact on the Florida Keys. We all watched the weather for a few days and since the Keys didn’t even get a drop of rain, Ralph decided to go fishing. The plan was to go offshore and it was a good one! The team of guys caught Mahi (Dolphinfish) and Blackfin Tuna! But the most interesting [...]

Florida Keys Marlin Fishing Report
Florida Keys Marlin Fishing Report Many people travel to the beautiful Florida Keys to book a fishing charter and some expect to come down here and catch Marlin. Perhaps it is the stories of Ernest Hemingway or the fact that our professional baseball team in Florida is named the Marlins, but the fact is we don't catch Marlin all that often here in the Florida Keys. We catch far more Mahi (Dolphinfish), Blackfin Tuna, Yellowtail Snapper, Sailfish, Grouper, Wahoo, and Swordfish to name a few. Marlin is typically caught more frequently in places like Australia, Hawaii, Mexico, Puerto [...]
Billfish Camp February 2020 Fishing Report
Billfish Camp February 2020 Fishing Report On February 7th and 8th, 2020, Main Attraction hosted their first 2-day Billfish Camp. We had six participants, some local and some traveled as far from North Carolina and Tennessee to join our camp. The forecast for Friday, February 7th was less than appealing, as a large front was making its way through Florida. Captain Marty spoke to all the anglers the night before and asked that they arrive at the dock at 7:30 am Friday so he could review the weather conditions and make the best judgment call. The morning started [...]

The “Secret” to Successful Florida Keys Charter Fishing
The “Secret” to Successful Florida Keys Charter Fishing Many clients are envious of our Captains and Mates. They say things like, “you are so lucky you get to fish all year round!” They are not wrong, of course, our crew members love to fish. However, most people don’t get to see all of the work behind the scenes that is required to consistently produce fish for our clients. While our past article The “Secret” to Winning Florida Keys Sailfish Tournaments focused on the preparation required for high [...]
Shark Fishing in the Florida Keys
Shark Fishing in the Florida Keys Often clients call and request to catch something VERY BIG. Sharks always put up a great fight as they are incredibly powerful and often weigh hundreds of pounds. There are many different types of Sharks in the waters of Florida, however we will focus on the ones we see and hook the most while fishing out of Marathon and Key Colony Beach, Florida. Some clients ask specifically to target shark on their trip but we also catch them while targeting other species. Sometimes our crews will see an opportunity to hook a [...]
Mission Fishin Update
Mission Fishin Update On Saturday September 7, 2019 The Main Attraction Fleet hosted an amazing organization out of Broward County called Mission Fishin. Mission Fishin is run by Tony Davis and several other generous partners. Tony’s youngest son is wheelchair bound and after taking him fishing one time, he saw the excitement on his face and wanted every child who faced challenges to have that same feeling of joy. Mission fishin is an organization that gets kids with special needs, disabilities, foster children, or a child who has gone through a hard time (ie. Such as losing a parent), [...]

Fathers Day Fishing Tournament – Marathon, Florida Keys
Fathers Day Fishing Tournament - Marathon, Florida Keys This past weekend, on June 15th, Main Attraction 1 traveled offshore to compete in the Father’s Day Dolphin Derby Tournament. The tournament is held every year, the Saturday before Father’s Day. Main Attraction has participated in this tournament for years. This year was no different, Captain Marty and his thirteen year old son, Alex, went out in search of a big Mahi (Dolphin Fish). It didn’t take long to get into the fish, but there was quite a bit of weeding through little schoolies (small Mahi) to get to the gaffers [...]
