Florida Keys Spring Fishing Report – March 2024

When it comes to fishing in the Florida Keys, March is one of the busiest months of the year, and we happily embrace it! Recently, we've had the pleasure of hosting many spring breakers and their families, who have been fortunate to experience the outstanding, consistent fishing we have been enjoying. Yellowtail Snapper The Florida Keys are a special place to fish because of the variety of species available, and spring is no exception. On the Reef, the Yellowtail Snapper bite is consistent this time of year, and we even get to catch very [...]

Costa Rica Big Game Fishing Charter

About a year ago, one of our repeat clients you all hear a lot about, Mark Busch, went to Costa Rica on an overnight FAD fishing trip. Costa Rica is well known for its Blue Marlin and Sailfish billfish. Other pelagic species, such as yellowfin tunas and mahi, are also available. The primary purpose of using fish aggregating devices (FAD) is to concentrate fish in a specific area, making it easier for fishermen to locate and catch them. This allows fishing vessels to reduce search time and fuel consumption, making fishing operations more efficient and [...]

Recently the Lewis family had an opportunity to head to the Bahamas. Despite living a mere 130 Miles from the beautiful Bahamas, the Lewis family had yet to consider visiting for several years. The Main Attraction fishing charter business, the marina, and everything else keeps them all busy. Additionally, Captain Marty started running a 60' Viking part-time for a private client. Recently, their client expressed an interest in going to the Bahamas and trying for a big game such as Marlin, Wahoo, and Yellowfin Tuna. The Lewis's watched the weather and sprang into action when [...]

Florida Keys Sailfish – March 2023 Fishing Report

If you read last week's article , you know that Main Attraction Co-Owner Katie Lewis passed on an opportunity to take the day off and go fun fishing with her husband Captain Marty Lewis. That day she missed out on catching 24 sailfish and a 750lb Bluefin Tuna with their son! A few days after that epic trip, once their daughter recuperated from the Flu, Katie decided she needed some saltwater therapy and a reset. On the morning of Friday, March 3rd, Captain Marty, Katie, a few friends, and crew members boarded their 49' fishing vessel, the [...]

Bluefin Tuna In the Florida Keys – A Day Offshore To Remember

On Wednesday, February 22nd, Captain Marty Lewis called his wife, Katie, and asked if she would like to go fishing the next day. Marty felt Thursday would be an excellent day to look for sailfish tailing in the waves. Katie wanted to say yes, but she had spent most of the week tending to their sick daughter, so she declined to catch up on work-related tasks. Captain Marty started calling around to friends and fellow fishing companions to see if anyone wanted to go fishing with him on his rare day off. It seemed like everyone was [...]

Florida Keys Fishing Report – December 2020

December is off to a great start in the Florida Keys. There has been a wide variety of species caught amongst our vessels, such as Yellowtail Snapper, Black Grouper, Cobia, Mackerel, Kingfish, Sailfish, Yellow Jacks, Wahoo, and various large Sharks. The Winter months typically bring more wind from a direction that is usually out of the North. Fortunately, the Islands help block that wind energy when we fish the Atlantic side, allowing us to fish pretty comfortably. You can expect on average a 2-4 foot chop on the ocean during these months. We have had several “cold fronts” [...]

Sailfish On The Reef! – Florida Keys Kite Fishing

Every year near the end of October, beginning of November, Team Main Attraction begins to transition the way we fish in the Florida Keys. This time of year, through the winter, we spend a lot of time on the reef, or within 10-15 miles offshore. As the baitfish push closer to shore, so do our frequently targeted species (Sailfish, Cobia, Kingfish, Mackerel, Snapper, Blackfin Tuna, etc.). On October 31st, Captain Marty and Katie Lewis had some family come into town to go trick-or-treating with their little one. Katie’s father Fred, has always enjoyed Yellowtail snapper fishing [...]

2020 Sailfish Season Recap and Wrap-up

2020 Sailfish Season Recap and Wrap-up What an odd few months it has been for all across America and throughout the world. The Florida Keys have been shut down since mid-March. As many know, from February through August, the Keys rely heavily on tourism to support their businesses for “season”. With tourists being banned, that means no income. However, the fish didn’t get the memo, and fishing has been incredible! Although we haven’t had clients to entertain, the Main Attraction crew has taken advantage of less fishing pressure, specifically sailfish, and have put up some record-setting numbers. There [...]
