Florida Keys Fishing Report – September 2019

Florida Keys Fishing Report - September 2019 In the past week, we have had some fun fishing charters, which is great news for the month of September! Typically, September is slow, not because of the fishing, but because families aren’t traveling as much, due to the kids going back to school. But lately the fishing has been great in Marathon. Dolphin fish, which are also known as Mahi or Dorado, are still here in the Florida Keys. Captain Marty and Shelby have reported the fish to be anywhere between 15-21 miles offshore, which is about 600-800 feet deep. With [...]

Florida Keys Off-Season Fishing Charters

Florida Keys Off-Season Fishing Charters Wow! What a busy summer we have had in the Florida Keys. During the months of May, June, and July, our fleet completed over 300 fishing charters. With only a couple weeks left in August we wanted to take the time to thank everyone who visited us this Summer. We hope you had a positive fishing experience and plan to come back and fish with us again. As the summer winds down and the kids go back to school, charter bookings start to slow down as well. Slowing down for us means we only [...]

Florida Keys Fishing Conditions Guide

Florida Keys Fishing Conditions Guide When clients call or email to book a charter, they convey what type of fish they prefer to catch on their trip, whether it is going offshore in search of Mahi or Sailfish, deep dropping for Swordfish, or staying on the reef to catch Snapper. While we note this information at the time of booking, it is essential to understand that the time of year is not the only factor in what species you should target; the conditions on the day you are fishing are most important. One Day the Mahi can be [...]

Fathers Day Fishing Tournament – Marathon, Florida Keys

Fathers Day Fishing Tournament - Marathon, Florida Keys This past weekend, on June 15th, Main Attraction 1 traveled offshore to compete in the Father’s Day Dolphin Derby Tournament. The tournament is held every year, the Saturday before Father’s Day. Main Attraction has participated in this tournament for years. This year was no different, Captain Marty and his thirteen year old son, Alex, went out in search of a big Mahi (Dolphin Fish). It didn’t take long to get into the fish, but there was quite a bit of weeding through little schoolies (small Mahi) to get to the gaffers [...]

Repeat Client Swordfish Charter – Florida Keys

Repeat Client Swordfish Charter - Florida Keys Main Attraction has been operating in the Florida Keys since 1992. Over the years, we have had the pleasure to meet and fish some pretty amazing individuals and families. Recently, we had one of our repeat clients, Jay Williams, organized a three day fishing adventure with his buddies, Joe, Joey, Geoffrey, Daniel, and Elzie. Fishing is a way to get all age groups together that share a common passion for the ocean! The guys ranged in age from 37 years old to 77 years old. Each charter had a [...]

Florida Keys Dolphin Tournament Fishing

Florida Keys Dolphin Tournament Fishing The first weekend of May every year, the Marathon Bull and Cow tournament kicks off the start of Mahi Tournament season. You’ve probably already read about how the Main Attraction Fishing Fleet prepares for sailfish tournaments, but now we are switching gears and starting dolphin season. Tournaments are different from standard charter fishing as the stakes are higher and the fishing days are longer. Just like with sailfish tournaments a well-qualified and well-prepared Captain and Mate are an absolute must for success. First, many hours are spent behind the scenes, prepping the equipment. Each [...]

Mahi Fishing Charters in the Florida Keys

Mahi Fishing Charters in the Florida Keys As the cool fronts dissipate, the water temperature down here in the Florida Keys begins to rise and the east winds blow. When this happens we all have one thing on our mind, MAHI fishing. In case you aren’t familiar with Mahi they are beautiful fish that range in color, some blue and white, others green, yellow and blue depending on their mood. To complement their many colors they also have many names! Mahi Mahi is actually the Hawaiian name for this fish translating from the Polynesian word for strong. The Spanish [...]

Tuna fishing on the Marathon Hump

Tuna fishing on the Marathon Hump When customers book a Blackfin Tuna trip with Main Attraction, it means we are fueling up, catching large amounts of fresh, live bait, and heading 27 plus miles offshore to the Marathon Hump! The Hump looks like an underwater mountain causing depths to range from 1150 feet to 480 feet at its pinnacle. The Hump is roughly in the middle of the Gulfstream which means the current screams through and forces a lot of the bait upward toward the surface when it collides with the large underwater structure. For this reason, many pelagic [...]

Christmas Week Fishing Report – December 29, 2018

Christmas Week Fishing Report - December 29, 2018 The holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year for fishing in the Florida Keys. The Main Attraction Fleet fished 30+ charters in the past week, not including Christmas Day. The week started off with a slower bite but has been getting better and better. We had boats coming in yesterday with Blackfin Tuna, Dolphin, Mackerel, Mangrove Snapper, and Mutton snapper. On Thursday, our boats returned to port with large Blackfin Tuna, Dolphin, Kingfish, Mackerel, Yellowtail, and Sailfish flags flying (as we release Sailfish). While the fishing picked up [...]

Florida Keys Mahi fishing in November!

Florida Keys Mahi fishing in November! Every year, many Floridians travel to the Florida Keys to fill their freezer with Dolphinfish (a.k.a. Mahi Mahi) filets. Because of this, we often get asked what are the best months to catch large quantities of Dolphinfish. As a fishing charter fleet, that fishes 300+ days a year, we typically advise our customers that April through August are typically the best time to produce large catches of Dolphinfish. However, this year we are still seeing Mahi well into November. This past November 13th, 2018, Captain Marty Lewis and first mate Dylan Johnson caught [...]
