Tuna fishing on the Marathon Hump

Tuna fishing on the Marathon Hump When customers book a Blackfin Tuna trip with Main Attraction, it means we are fueling up, catching large amounts of fresh, live bait, and heading 27 plus miles offshore to the Marathon Hump! The Hump looks like an underwater mountain causing depths to range from 1150 feet to 480 feet at its pinnacle. The Hump is roughly in the middle of the Gulfstream which means the current screams through and forces a lot of the bait upward toward the surface when it collides with the large underwater structure. For this reason, many pelagic [...]

Woohoo it’s Wahoo! Florida Keys Charter Fishing

Woohoo it's Wahoo! Florida Keys Charter Fishing When people think about Wahoo in the Florida Keys, they often think about high speed trolling or jigging under large floating debris miles offshore, typically while Dolphin Fishing in the late spring and summer. The wintertime, however, also presents some fantastic opportunities for anglers to land these highly prized, delicious, sushi-grade fish. With a recent cold front moving into the Florida Keys cooling our waters to less than 70 degrees our Crews knew this change would likely draw Wahoo closer to shore as their food [...]

Yellowtail Snapper Fishing in the Florida Keys

Yellowtail Snapper Fishing in the Florida Keys During the winter months, the Main Attraction gets a lot of requests for reef charters in search of delicious yellowtail Snapper. Yellowtail Snapper is a delicious fish that is available on the reef year-round but primarily targeted in the cooler months of the fall and winter. Kids absolutely love to catch Yellowtail Snapper as we use smaller light tackle rods and reels for these typically 12-16 inch long fish, giving them a good fight without overwhelming them. These smaller sized Yellowtail are available on the reef a mere 15-minute ride out from [...]

Mack Facts! Mackerel Fishing in the Florida Keys

Mack Facts! Mackerel Fishing in the Florida Keys As the cooler north winds blow in this time of year, and water temperatures decline, schools of Mackerel begin to appear all throughout the waters of the Florida Keys. We fish many Reef trips at the Main Attraction during the winter months, and while we are targeting delicious reef staples such as Yellowtail and Mangrove Snapper, we enjoy flying kites to see what else we can raise. While doing this, schools of Mackerel often come storming in at high speeds along the surface to snack on live baitfish, and when they [...]

How to find the right fishing charter for you.

How to find the right fishing charter for you. Most people are primarily driven by price when comparing one fishing charter company to another. We do understand charter fishing is not cheap and prices matter. However, when comparing your options there are different aspects you should investigate when determining value. Look at the type of vessels each company is running, the size of the vessel, and what type/size engines are they running, and how many engines are in/on the vessel. Bigger vessels and more engines mean more fuel being burnt. Bigger vessels typically mean more comfort and can handle [...]
