Now that the holidays are behind us, it is time to focus on Sailfish! We started 2024 with one of the first Sailfish Tournaments of the new year, The Fish for Holly Sailfish Tournament out of Islamorada. Main Attraction owners Captain Marty Lewis and his Wife, Katie Lewis, fish this tournament yearly. Ben O’Fishal Main Attraction Fishing Charter Affiliate
You might remember Captain "Big" Ben Zdan, who fished with us last year. The 6' 4'' Captain fished with the Main Attraction team primarily in the summer, as he is also a commercial lobster and stone crab trapper. 17th Annual Mother’s Day Dolphin Tournament Fishing Report
Last week on May 13th, Habitat for Humanity of the Middle Keys hosted a one-day Dolphin tournament. This non-profit organization has hosted the Dolphinfish tournament every Mother's Day weekend in May for the last 17 years. The Main Attraction team had three boats from their marina signed up to fish. A week before the tournament, the weather report called for sporty conditions, 10-20 knots straight out of the East. 2023 Marathon Premier Sailfish Tournament Recap
The second annual Marathon Premier Sailfish Tournament concluded last week. There were a total of 14 boats, and 83 anglers signed up. The Main Attraction fishing team had three boats signed up to fish. The Main One was booked by our longtime client Mark Busch. Mark booked Captain Marty Lewis to fish on the 49' Sportfish a year in advance. The Bowcock family also rebooked the tournament a year in advance and were fishing on the Main Attraction for the second year. If you haven’t heard, the 2nd annual Marathon Premier Sailfish Tournament is again around the corner. Main Attraction Co-Owner, Katie Lewis founded a non-profit organization hosting a yearly two-day Sailfish tournament in Marathon, Florida. After many years of competing in Sailfish tournaments in Islamorada and Key West, Katie decided Marathon, Florida, deserved to have one too. 2022 Marathon Premier Sailfish Tournament Last weekend was one for the books! The 1st Annual Marathon Premier Sailfish Tournament was held in Marathon, Florida Keys. This non-profit organization was established by Main Attraction co-owner, Katie Lewis. The tournament aims to showcase local talent, bring a much-needed sailfish tournament to Marathon, and raise money for a fantastic cause. ECA 36th Annual Fishing Tournament – Hawks Cay Marina
Florida Keys summertime means two things, hopefully, lots of Dolphin Fish (Mahi) and fishing tournaments. Every year, we look forward to participating in these Florida Keys fishing tournaments. The Engineering Contractors Association or ECA holds their annual Dolphin & Wahoo tournament out of Hawk’s Cay each year. 2020 Mahi-Mahi Tournament Update
The day started like any other, they loaded the boat with live bait, rigged ballyhoo, and fresh line on all the rods. Their Clients arrived, and they headed offshore to get in a good position for the official “lines in” time-frame. The Fishing was tough, the Florida Keys were shut down for nearly 3 months during the pandemic and June 1st they reopened the Keys which meant a lot of boats trying to make up for lost fishing time and lots of pressure on the fish that were available. Adding to the challenge the weed was very scattered that day and not formed into troll worthy lines by the current. Adding to the challenge there was not a lot of big fish around which meant no sets of 2 or 3 frigate birds following big Slammer Dolphinfish.
