Florida Keys Fishing Report – End of 2020

Finally, 2020 has come to an end and we are thrilled! We just finished two very busy weeks here in the Florida Keys including Christmas week; the busiest week of the year. To be proactive before the nonstop week of fishing, we installed two brand new motors on one of our most popular vessels, the Main Attraction. Unfortunately, within two days of running them, one of our shiny new motors had a major internal failure and was found to be unrepairable. We worked very hard to rearrange trips on our four other vessels and get people on the [...]

Florida Keys Fishing Report – November 2020

It has been extremely windy, the last few weeks here in the Florida Keys. We have been shuffling trips to get charters out on the water, and preparing boats for tropical storms in NOVEMBER! Crazy right? Although, it is 2020, so it feels like anything is possible! We had Tropical Storm ETA (almost hurricane status), bounce off South America, and zig-zag its way towards the Florida Keys. We prepared our vessels as normal and watched it rain and blow for several days. Once the wind settled down and the water cleared up a bit, we went back to [...]

Florida Keys Fishing Report – September, 2020 – Mahi, Tuna, Wahoo

Florida Keys Fishing Report - September, 2020 - Mahi, Tuna, Wahoo The Florida Keys are still pretty busy, which is a surprise. Typically, every year once the kids go back to school, the Keys will see fewer visitors, making it our off-season. This year, Main Attraction fished more charters in July and August then we did in 2019 and September is looking pretty busy too. Our guess is after the COVID restrictions were lifted, people were anxious to get out of the house and have a vacation that didn't require international travel. What is better than being in [...]

Florida Keys Fishing Report – August 2020

Florida Keys Fishing Report - August 2020 August 2020 kicked off with some excitement last week. Captain Marty had some nice folks for a full day offshore. Ralph and his friends originally canceled their trip due to tropical storm Isisais and its potential impact on the Florida Keys. We all watched the weather for a few days and since the Keys didn’t even get a drop of rain, Ralph decided to go fishing. The plan was to go offshore and it was a good one! The team of guys caught Mahi (Dolphinfish) and Blackfin Tuna! But the most interesting [...]

Florida Keys Family Vacation Fishing Charters – July 2020 Report

Florida Keys Family Vacation Fishing Charters - July 2020 Report Fishing is a great way to include the whole family and have some good wholesome fun! What is more beautiful than a sunny day out on the water breathing in the fresh sea air? At Main Attraction Charters we enjoy seeing young children discover their passion for fishing. It is very easy to get caught up in hunting for monster fish, breaking records, and winning tournaments. But all it takes is seeing a child catch their first fish, seeing their face beaming with joy and pride to remember [...]

Florida Keys Marlin Fishing Report

Florida Keys Marlin Fishing Report Many people travel to the beautiful Florida Keys to book a fishing charter and some expect to come down here and catch Marlin. Perhaps it is the stories of Ernest Hemingway or the fact that our professional baseball team in Florida is named the Marlins, but the fact is we don't catch Marlin all that often here in the Florida Keys. We catch far more Mahi (Dolphinfish), Blackfin Tuna, Yellowtail Snapper, Sailfish, Grouper, Wahoo, and Swordfish to name a few. Marlin is typically caught more frequently in places like Australia, Hawaii, Mexico, Puerto [...]

Florida Keys Sailfish Record 70 Sailfish Caught and Released in one day!

Florida Keys Sailfish Record - 70 Sailfish Caught and Released in one day! On Saturday, April 11th, first mate Digger Rodamer sent out a group text to the Main Attraction crew suggesting a Sailfish trip on Easter Sunday. Digger and Captain Marty Lewis saw each other earlier that day while fishing off the Marathon hump. Captain Marty had taken his wife, Katie, and young daughter tuna fishing. Based on the conditions they saw offshore both Marty and Digger had a feeling the sail fishing was about to be great. With it being a holiday and having [...]

Billfish Camp February 2020 Fishing Report

Billfish Camp February 2020 Fishing Report On February 7th and 8th, 2020, Main Attraction hosted their first 2-day Billfish Camp. We had six participants, some local and some traveled as far from North Carolina and Tennessee to join our camp. The forecast for Friday, February 7th was less than appealing, as a large front was making its way through Florida. Captain Marty spoke to all the anglers the night before and asked that they arrive at the dock at 7:30 am Friday so he could review the weather conditions and make the best judgment call. The morning started [...]

The “Secret” to Successful Florida Keys Charter Fishing

The “Secret” to Successful Florida Keys Charter Fishing Many clients are envious of our Captains and Mates. They say things like, “you are so lucky you get to fish all year round!” They are not wrong, of course, our crew members love to fish. However, most people don’t get to see all of the work behind the scenes that is required to consistently produce fish for our clients. A successful charter fishing fleet entails so much more than fishing daily. While our past article The “Secret” to Winning Florida Keys Sailfish Tournaments focused on the preparation required for high [...]
