Summer Camp July 2022 Fishing Report

Summer Camp July 2022 Fishing Report Our Summertime Fish Camp was officially wrapped up last week and we are thrilled to report it was a success! Our Fish camps are designed for anglers to gain more experience and hands-on training learning how to tie knots, rig baits, and catch fish. Each fish camp has a three-day window, fishing two days, with an extra day on reserve, in case there are weather issues. Another cool feature of the camp is we bring along a professional photographer, to capture photos and video. The images and video are used [...]

A Local Florida Keys Fish Story

Living in the Florida Keys gives you more than beautiful views and great fishing. You also get to develop small-town relationships with the locals, especially if you have lived here for many years. Captain Marty Lewis, now in his early 40s, has lived in the Keys since he was a teenager. Throughout the years, Marty has developed solid relationships with other locals, such as Ms. Donna Hart. Donna caught her first Sailfish many years ago with Captain Marty. Due to volunteering her time at local fishing tournaments, Ms. Hart is known by numerous fishing professionals and anglers. [...]

Florida Keys Fishing Report – May 2022

How is it May already? This year is flying by as summertime fishing is already right around the corner. May 1st is a special day for us in the Florida Keys because it's the opening day of the eight-month-long Grouper season! May 1st is nearly a holiday for many anglers, with the ultimate goal being to get their limit on the first day. Grouper Update Captain Alex and first mate Steve had a three-quarter day charter with Laura Kennedy and her friends on May 1st opening day of the season. They had a blast, catching four nice [...]

Spring Camp March 2022 Fishing Report

Spring Camp March 2022 Fishing Report The Main Attraction two-day fish camp is a hands-on experience designed to teach anglers how our crews catch fish. Recently we had a springtime edition scheduled for March 4th and 5th. Unfortunately, a few days before the camp was due to start, it was clear the weather would be a problem, so we decided to move it to another weekend that would allow for calmer winds and seas. Unfortunately, we had three participants who could not make the new camp date, but we wanted to take advantage of the March [...]

Florida Keys Fishing Report – March 2022

It sure has been a windy winter in the Florida Keys! We have been experiencing winds from 15 mph to 30mph these past few weeks. Although we run larger boats which allows us to fish in a wider variety of conditions, not everyone enjoys the rocking motion caused by the taller waves. Having to shuffle and reschedule trips due to the weather is an unfortunate but necessary task when running a fishing charter in the Keys. Despite these weather-related challenges, the fishing has been consistently good, and we are excited for the official start of spring which is just [...]

Blackfin Tuna – Spring 2021 Fishing Report

Springtime fishing in the Florida Keys is one of the best times to catch a variety of species without having to travel far offshore. When baitfish push in closer, so do predators, and our travel time is reduced. The Blackfin Tuna bite has been incredible this past week. The seas have been kind to us lately (although this looks to be changing soon) and we have been able to catch lots of great eating Tuna. We have fished two different techniques this past week, each being very successful, Trolling and Live baiting. Trolling Captain Steve took the [...]

Florida Keys Marlin Fishing Report

Florida Keys Marlin Fishing Report Many people travel to the beautiful Florida Keys to book a fishing charter and some expect to come down here and catch Marlin. Perhaps it is the stories of Ernest Hemingway or the fact that our professional baseball team in Florida is named the Marlins, but the fact is we don't catch Marlin all that often here in the Florida Keys. We catch far more Mahi (Dolphinfish), Blackfin Tuna, Yellowtail Snapper, Sailfish, Grouper, Wahoo, and Swordfish to name a few. Marlin is typically caught more frequently in places like Australia, Hawaii, Mexico, Puerto [...]

Florida Keys Reopening – June 2020 Fishing Report

Florida Keys Reopening - June 2020 Fishing Report The Florida Keys officially reopened to public visitors on June 1, 2020. As the charters began to trickle in, we were thrilled to have some type of normalcy back in our lives. We were also fortunate enough to have our loyal clients who had trips booked during the pandemic, reschedule instead of cancel to help support our business during such a difficult time. We are happy to report we are back in action, fishing, and working hard! Dave Villiger and his son recently traveled from Atlanta, Georgia, to fish with [...]

Billfish Camp February 2020 Fishing Report

Billfish Camp February 2020 Fishing Report On February 7th and 8th, 2020, Main Attraction hosted their first 2-day Billfish Camp. We had six participants, some local and some traveled as far from North Carolina and Tennessee to join our camp. The forecast for Friday, February 7th was less than appealing, as a large front was making its way through Florida. Captain Marty spoke to all the anglers the night before and asked that they arrive at the dock at 7:30 am Friday so he could review the weather conditions and make the best judgment call. The morning started [...]

Florida Keys Fishing Report – January 2, 2020

Florida Keys Fishing Report - January 2, 2020 It has been a very busy week for us at Main Attraction. Our boats have been running double charters to accommodate everyone during one of the busiest times of the year. We had a huge weather front blow through on December 18th starting in the afternoon and lasting until Sunday evening December 22nd. We tried our hardest to get these charters out, but for the safety of our passengers and vessels, we had to cancel or reschedule most of those trips. Once the weather let up, we were back on [...]
