A Local Florida Keys Fish Story

Living in the Florida Keys gives you more than beautiful views and great fishing. You also get to develop small-town relationships with the locals, especially if you have lived here for many years. Captain Marty Lewis, now in his early 40s, has lived in the Keys since he was a teenager. Throughout the years, Marty has developed solid relationships with other locals, such as Ms. Donna Hart. Donna caught her first Sailfish many years ago with Captain Marty. Due to volunteering her time at local fishing tournaments, Ms. Hart is known by numerous fishing professionals and anglers. [...]

The “Secret” to Successful Deep Drop Fishing Trips in the Florida Keys

When our customers mention deep drop fishing or deep dropping, they are often referring to swordfishing. Although a Swordfish is an incredible trophy and great to eat, many other creatures of the deep are also fun to catch and delicious to eat. At Main Attraction, we consider fishing for any species in depths over 500 feet to be deep dropping. This will be the 6th installment of our "Secrets To Success" article series. We sat down with Captain Marty Lewis, who runs our 49' flagship, the Main One, and asked him about his deep dropping techniques. [...]

Florida Keys Daytime Swordfishing

Have you ever dreamed of catching a Broadbill Swordfish? Main Attraction co-owner Katie Lewis has! You might ask, isn't she married to Captain Marty Lewis? Can't he take her? Yes, of course! However, Captain Marty fishes so many trips a year that Katie usually wants him to get some much-needed rest on those few days that he gets off from work. When Marty and Katie manage to get out for some fun fishing, they also need the weather and current to cooperate in considering Swordfishing. Because of these reasons, a big broadbill Swordfish has eluded Katie Lewis [...]

Florida Keys Fishing Report – May 2022

How is it May already? This year is flying by as summertime fishing is already right around the corner. May 1st is a special day for us in the Florida Keys because it's the opening day of the eight-month-long Grouper season! May 1st is nearly a holiday for many anglers, with the ultimate goal being to get their limit on the first day. Grouper Update Captain Alex and first mate Steve had a three-quarter day charter with Laura Kennedy and her friends on May 1st opening day of the season. They had a blast, catching four nice [...]

2022 Marathon Premier Sailfish Tournament

2022 Marathon Premier Sailfish Tournament Last weekend was one for the books! The 1st Annual Marathon Premier Sailfish Tournament was held in Marathon, Florida Keys. This non-profit organization was established by Main Attraction co-owner, Katie Lewis. The tournament aims to showcase local talent, bring a much-needed sailfish tournament to Marathon, and raise money for a fantastic cause. This year’s charity of choice was Mission Fishin, a south Florida-based charity that helps special needs children and their families get out on the water and fish, take boat rides, and eco-tours.  All four of Main Attraction’s vessels were [...]

Two-Day Florida Keys Summer Fishing Charter Camp – July 2022

We had such a blast hosting our spring fish camp that we have decided to do a summertime fish camp! The summer brings calmer seas and winds, which is excellent news because typically, we need to head further offshore to catch fish this time of year. So we switch gears in the summer and spend most of our time offshore. The winter/spring gusty winds have subsided by May, allowing us to travel far enough to target deep-sea pelagic and bottom-dwelling fish. We still monitor the weather because we occasionally see fronts or tropical systems in the summertime. Dates [...]

Spring Camp March 2022 Fishing Report

Spring Camp March 2022 Fishing Report The Main Attraction two-day fish camp is a hands-on experience designed to teach anglers how our crews catch fish. Recently we had a springtime edition scheduled for March 4th and 5th. Unfortunately, a few days before the camp was due to start, it was clear the weather would be a problem, so we decided to move it to another weekend that would allow for calmer winds and seas. Unfortunately, we had three participants who could not make the new camp date, but we wanted to take advantage of the March [...]

Florida Keys Fishing Report – March 2022

It sure has been a windy winter in the Florida Keys! We have been experiencing winds from 15 mph to 30mph these past few weeks. Although we run larger boats which allows us to fish in a wider variety of conditions, not everyone enjoys the rocking motion caused by the taller waves. Having to shuffle and reschedule trips due to the weather is an unfortunate but necessary task when running a fishing charter in the Keys. Despite these weather-related challenges, the fishing has been consistently good, and we are excited for the official start of spring which is just [...]
